Behind an unassuming exterior lies a taste oasis in Al’s Delicious Popcorn off of Bethel Rd. I was shocked by the number of flavors and assortments available in what looked like a very small space from outside. Walking in the door I was met with the smell of freshly popped popcorn, a full rainbow of colors, and the sounds of the staff working feverishly in the back to continue filling a variety of large bins. From bubble gum to apple pie, pizza to pickle. Regardless of whether you are plagued by a sweet tooth or have a taste for the savory, this spot will not disappoint!
There is a new passport required in Downtown Delaware; the Find Penguin Passport, that is! Fundamentals Bookstore has spearheaded this event for a few years and it is only getting better with time. The business owners in Downtown Delaware are doing an unmatched job of working together in highlighting each others’ strengths and products and this is a perfect example of that. There are 25 businesses, within a few city blocks, that have teamed up to give people the opportunity to seek a most adorable penguin. The task at hand is moving along the streets of Downtown Delaware to explore the participating shops, restaurants and businesses that have hidden the mascot. Once found, you get a signature from an employee (and maybe a few treats from the location) before moving on to the next stop. Finding at least 20 of the locations’ penguins means a prize from Fundamentals and the gift of exploring the beautiful downtown city blocks.
This not only gives you the chance to search for an icon but also search small businesses that you hadn’t previously known where there. While on the hunt, my little ones and I ended up in a record store playing music that inspired a dance party, a home goods store that I had forgotten all about, and a comic shop that I didn’t know existed...and I live here! It was so exciting for my kids, and me as well, to head into a new place with the sole purpose of exploring. This hunt gives you a no-pressure opportunity to take a peek at menu options, upcoming events, and local products featured within this locations. We are looking forward to another afternoon of romping around our town and discovering all that it has to offer.
If you aren’t from the area, this is a marvelous way to get acquainted with it. And if you are, you will be missing out if you don’t join in! Everyone that participates is invited to attend the We Found Penguin Grand Finale Party on August 3 during First Friday (another story, in itself!). The competition runs through the end of July For more information find Fundamentals online or on Find Penguin in Delaware Ohio’s Facebook page!
Oasis Face Bar is a new addition to downtown Columbus located on Gay Street. It's the sister company to Skin Oasis, and is the first of its kind in Columbus Ohio. I visited their 2 month old location this afternoon for my first facial....that's right, before today I was a facial virgin so I wasn't sure what to expect.
The space was warm, casual, and inviting. I immediately felt relaxed and super comfy. There are fluffy blankets hung over each chair. I chose the Enlighten facial which is used to brighten and even out skin tone. It was absolutely wonderful and such a relaxing experience.
Facials run for 30 minutes and cost $49. You can customize your experience with $10 extras like facial massages, peels, dermaplaning, and treatments with Columbus-based hemp and honey products Cannuka.
I added a peel and after it was finished my face felt brand new. I actually felt like I was glowing when I left. On my way out I made another appointment - I'm hooked!
I can't wait to go back and I'm working on getting my husband to join me on my next trip. Facials aren't just for women, men can totally benefit from them and enjoy them. I totally recommend for anyone and have no idea why I waited to long to try it.

We're currently obsessing over the #mondayadoptables campaign that features adoptable dogs in the form of beautifully hand drawn portraits. The campaign is a collaboration between local pet retailer Mutts & Co. and Columbus artist Jes McGinley of JesMarried. Every Monday a new portrait is posted to the Mutts & Co. Instagram and Facebook page along with a bio and a couple actual photos of the pup. Mutts & Co. tries to select dogs that may need a little more attention or those who have been looking for their forever home longer than others.
Mutts & Co. supports organizations in their efforts to spay and neuter, save, adopt, heal and provide safe havens for the pets in our community. Their #mondayadoptables campaign is one of many ways they support local animal rescue and promote pet adoption.
Be sure to follow Mutts & Co. and JesMarried on Instagram to see the featured dog each week. All of the featured dogs can be found using hashtag #mondayadopables and those featured in the last 6 weeks are pictured below.
